Mike Harman

Show Secretary and General Manager - Mike Harman

I joined in 2003, after working over 30 years for a major international metals plc. My claim to fame is that my first Hertfordshire County Show was the first Agricultural or County Show I had ever attended!

My personal 'learning' experience and the progressive development of both the Show and the Showground infrastructure has been a fascinating journey and a motivating challenge. This year will be the 131st Show, and our responsibility is to ensure that we protect the Hertfordshire County Show for future generations to enjoy. Our 'Fun and Education' in the Countryside theme and reputation as the 'Best Value for Money Community Event in the County' are just two of the key elements to our future success and survival.

With everybody's continued support, I am confident that there will a 250th Hertfordshire County Show!

Assistant Show Secretary - Mary Smart

I joined 1985 when the Society worked out of offices in St. Albans and installed a temporary office on the Showground for two weeks before the Show, how things have changed! During my time I have seen some dramatic changes to the Show and Showground and tremendous advances in technology, some of which I am certain can create more work! My time here has involved many aspects of the Show including setting up the initial computer system, designing the database, organising the trade stands, to the initial implementation of our Web site which is now 8 years old, while still managing the accounts!

Equine and Communications Secretary - Lucy Chambers

I joined the show in March 2016 as the interim equine secretary. After an exciting build up and a fabulous show, I am absolutely delighted to now be a permanent part of the show team. I didn't know a whole lot about horses when I started, but I do now!

Trade Stand Secretary - Michelle Manning

We are delighted to welcome Michelle to our little show team! Watch this space for a little more info.
Claire Kearns Livestock and Membership Secretary

Livestock Secretary - Claire Kearns

With a deep love of the countryside and farming I stepped into my perfect job as Livestock Secretary back in 2013, after a 20 year career break. On the run up to my 4th Show I now look after Membership and Stewards as well as the Sheep and Cattle exhibitors. Prior to working for the Society, whilst raising my family I volunteered at many events, including the Hertfordshire County Show and was membership secretary for the Flamstead Pony Club. With 2 decades of experiencing the highs and lows of the competition circuit, I have genuine sympathy with all my exhibitors staying away at shows and strive to make each competitors’ weekend showing their livestock an enjoyable experience. My reward and also favourite event at the Show is the Grand Parade of Cattle and Sheep, with the members in the background and the stewards organising the parade it represents a years’ work.
